The original Goshen Stone in Goshen, MA - George D. Judd & Sons, LLC

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION CHART

Goshen Stone® is a mica schist, a type of granite that has been formed into layers varying from two inches to 12 inches in thickness. Goshen Stone® possesses such a hard quality that when split, the resulting break is straight-edged. Blue-grey and brownish in color, it weathers to an aged look in two years.

Quarried Stone is then graded for its various purposes. Stone ranging in thickness from two to three inches is used as “flagging” stone for walks, patios or areas surrounding swimming pools, fountains and other
architectural landscaping purposes. Other decorative stone measuring three to four inches thick is used for doorsteps, hearths, mantels and veneer for structural facades.

Our “guillotine” stone snapper processes four to eight inch natural stone for use in fireplace construction, ornamental veneer for exterior uses, stone pillars or two faced free standing walls.

Retaining walls require stone varying in thickness from three to eight inches.
Goshen Stone® can be readily hand split into smaller pieces by using a stone hammer for easier handling. Because it is easy to work with and because of rising building costs, Goshen Stone® has become an increasingly popular building and landscaping option.

Snapped Stone, guillotine snapped stone, sawed stone and veneer are all available for projects. Goshen Stone® is more economical because it does not require the conventional concrete footing for walls or landscaping planter. Retaining walls and planters are built up in a locking pattern which allows for the give and take of frost. Dry walls facilitate drainage which eliminates water or ice buildup which could cause buckling or eventual collapsing.
